Well paperwallet is here to give you a few more options. Also made from Tyvek and 100% recyclable, the design of the wallet is different, and they have some eye-popping colors and up-and-coming guest artists from around the world to create some of their graphics. Remember that the Tyvek material is tear-resistant, has some elastic properties (to expand for all the credit card holders), and is water resistant. These wallets are also affordable (ranging from $9.99-$19.99) so if you want to switch designs, it leaves you with some cash to still put IN your wallet. The other cool thing that paperwallet does is that if you send in your old paperwallet to recycle, they will give you a 15% discount on your next one.

I know what you’re thinking … that you can possibly make one yourself since it’s made from paper. Well, despite its name, Paperwallet is not exactly made from paper, but from a paper-thin, water and tear resistant material Tyvek. Not only is it 100% recyclable, this bi-fold travel wallet is also expandable with a few pockets and slots, and is available in different colors and designs, including unique graphic artwork from certain artists. If you’re the sort who can’t bear to wear your wallet, and resorted to keep it stain-free by wrapping it in plastic, paperwallet may be the answer for you. And I can’t help being reminded of my mom-in-law, who had thoughts of wrapping her brand-new branded wallet in plastic, just so she could keep it in pristine condition for years to come…

My Melange
A month or so ago, I was contacted by the powers-that-be regarding a new product. I’m always up for trying out a new product and being able to give my honest opinion, be it good or bad, to my readers. The product is called Paperwallet. Now, I know that may sound a bit odd. A wallet made out of paper? But I was certainly intrigued. I promptly received a bright purple Paperwallet in the mail and must tell you, I was quite impressed. I feel it would be a great option for all sorts of travelers. Let me tell you why: The paperwallet is thin, lightweight and indestructible. It’s made from Tyvek, which is paper-thin, yet tear-resistant. It comes in a host of colors. New cool designs are coming soon – perfect for travelers with a personality – ahem, like me. Its small size would take up minimal space in luggage, daypacks or pockets. As someone who lives to pack lightly, it’s a great alternative to a regular bulky wallet. Perfect for carry-on travelers like myself. It’s recyclable. As someone who cares about the environment, I especially appreciate this feature. It holds a decent amount. Really. It is set up similar to a regular wallet. A spot for bills, two sides with pockets for credit cards and even two more secure, easy access pockets. When traveling, normally you only take the basics. One or two credit cards, ID, medical ID cards, etc. The paperwallet would hold these comfortably. While there is a mention on the website about it being water-resistant, I decided to experiment a bit on my own. I dropped a bit of water on it, which seemed to bead right up, not soak in and didn’t cause the color to bleed at all. Yep. Water resistant. It’s budget friendly. Starting at only $9.99 USD. So if you are a green traveler, a budget traveler, someone who likes to travel light or are looking for a great gift idea for any one of the aforementioned travel types, give paperwallet a try.
Hole in the Donut
Recently, the manufacturer of Paperwallet, a new lightweight wallet made from a thin, tear-resistant, elastic fabric called Tyvek, asked me to try out their product. Although I don’t write a lot of product reviews, I agreed in this instance because I have been searching for a solution to the “wallet issue” for years. When I am not traveling I carry a large wallet that has room for money, coins, ID, photos, and a myriad of credit, debit, and membership cards. But when I hit the road, I leave behind all the extraneous stuff and pare down to a small wallet. Over the years I’ve tried many different styles, but I have never been able to find one that suits me. For example, the man’s style tri-fold that I am currently using is a has a slot for paper money that is not long enough for many foreign currencies; I end up crumpling and double folding bills to get them to fit, which often makes the wallet too thick to close. While the Paperwallet is not a product I would not consider for everyday use, its design was perfect for traveling. It has two credit card slots, two contact card flaps, two easy access pockets, and a cash pocket that handles U.S. bills with room to spare. And because it’s made of Tyvek, Paperwallet is recyclable; you can send your old wallet back to the company for recycling and the company provides a 15% discount on the purchase of your next wallet. Paperwallet is also ideal for a ploy I use against pickpockets or robbery. I carry two wallets; one with a dummy credit card, some old business cards, and a few dollars of local currency. My “real” wallet is buried somewhere deep in my backpack. If I happen to be the victim of a pickpocket, Paperwallet would be a great decoy that doesn’t cost a lot to replace.
What The Cool
It’s difficult finding a wallet that matches your personality. You could spend hours looking for the right one inside shops or online. A wallet is your holy grail. It carries your plastic, your cash, your identification, and important numbers you get at the local bar. It’s a bit of an exaggeration, but REALLY, a wallet holds your money. And money is something you use on a daily basis.
Incredible Things
Tyvek Wallet DIYs have been floating around for some time now, and while we love that they are slim, durable, lightweight and eco-friendly we just aren’t that great with scissors. Luckily Tyvek wallets don’t have to be made from a FedEx envelope on your dining room table, they can be bought for around $15 a pop from Paperwallet. Better yet, they don’t look like something you ship—they’re available in a bunch of colors and cool designs.

If you prefer to keep things simple when it comes to wallets, we've got the ultimate for you in pared-down functionality: the Paperwallet. This lil guy is made of a durable, waterproof, tear-resistant 'fabric' called Tyvek. It's got a total of 6 compartments for cards and cash. We can't decide if our favorite feature is the rainbow of colors it's available in, or the fact that it's expandable - it's slim if you keep just the basics, but it'll expand to hold way more junk than you need to be carrying around with you.
Street Fashion World
No one can deny that everyone is getting really serious about eco friendly style and something that goes hand in hand with eco-fashion these days, is simplicity. Just in time for earth day and in the spirit of saving money and the planet, Paper Wallet is my choice for 2010. Paper Wallet proves you don’t have to be a hippie to be eco friendly. I spent the last 10 years in Portland,Oregon. A place that although hip in ways, has given environmental fashion a bad name. Between hippie-wear, the overstock of olive and taupe outdoor gear, crocks, socks and sandals and worst of all TYE DYE – being eco became synonymous with ‘bleh’ for me for quite a while. Even though the word eco makes many color loving people cringe, that’s rapidly changing around the world, Europe being a major part of this eco-stylish movement and Paris being one of the first cities to catch on to Paper Wallets (They were even featured at Paris Fashion Week earlier in March). The catch (or the perk really) is that they’re not really paper, but a 100% recyclable paper thin durable material (also tear-resistant, water resistant and elastic) and are about as simple as you can get while still having as much space as other wallets (but not looking overly busy or encouraging ’wallet stuffing’). I cant tell you how many times while traveling I wished for a thinner wallet while walking through a shady neighbourhood. I feel the most confident strolling through a Mexican ghetto or my current neighbourhood in New Orleans when I carry nothing or something so invisible, I know no one can see it. Although simple in construction, they’re not over simple in style or function. When telling my boyfriend about them, I had to make it clear that just because they were thin, they had no less compartments than his current wallet (which is way overdue for a replacement). They hold 12+ credit cards, money, business cards etc – more than enough space. So many companies are really getting the hint and stepping forward to give us eco-clothing and accessories we actually want to wear and are functional. What really puts them at the peak of the eco style mountain is the product designer Elad Burko. He states that “From the beginning I knew I wanted a wide range of artists from all over the world to design wallets; the one-style-fits-all era is over.” At this point Burko is working with graphic designers, graffiti designers, vector artists, illustrators and character artist from around the globe to create their designer line due out soon. Besides the artists series they also come in a huge variety of colors that will bash any stereotype you may have about ‘eco’ being equal to ‘bland’. Paper Wallet is one of few companies making eco-accessories for people who care about the planet but don’t wear socks and sandals in the rain. My boyfriend’s wallet arrives soon and I’ll tell you more about how these great little wallets hold up against our traveling lifestyle! He’s getting the solid black one and when the designer wallets come out in a month or so, I’ll be all over those, adding a couple to my own collection of artist series accessories.
Graphic Arts
Product designer Elad Burko combines his understanding of recent trends in consumer products, creative design and innovative art provided by young artists to create a new product that is experiencing tremendous success in some of the trendiest stores in Paris. Despite the name, the Paperwallet is not made of paper; it’s made from a 100% recyclable, paper-thin, durable material. "If we look at the consumer world, everything is getting smaller, lighter, more aesthetic and environmentally responsible," explains Burko, who is expanding the trend to wallets. High-end limited edition shoes took the market by storm late in the last decade by replacing standard, solid colored and striped sneakers with art and design with which customers identify. This approach proved quite successful especially with younger audiences and led many to believe that design will soon be appearing on many products we traditionally see as strictly functional. Most notably, Apple is credited for bringing design to computers, perhaps the most traditionally functional consumer product. What sets Burko apart from other designers is the platform he creates for artists. "From the beginning I knew I wanted a wide range of artists from all over the world to design wallets; the one-style-fits-all era is over." At this point Burko is working with graphic designers, graffiti designers, vector artists, illustrators and character artist from around the globe. The future looks promising for Paperwallet. In Paris, the product is being sold at the Louvre, Palais de Tokyo, Merci, Fleux and Bubblewood. The Paperwallet is featured at Fashion Week this year in Paris.

Un portafoglio in carta?
