On April 10, Paperwallet is releasing Frog Hotel, a previous Slim Wallet design now for the Micro Wallet by artist Marcos Abdallah. A hotel for frogs. That's the kind of concept that either works completely or doesn't work at all. This one works.
About the Design
We'll let the product images do the talking on this one. What we can say is that Abdallah's style leans illustrative with a sense of humor. The concept takes something small and familiar (frogs) and puts them in a context that's unexpected (a hotel). It's the kind of wallet design that starts conversations when you pull it out at a register.
The design covers the full wallet surface, front and back. When you open it, the interior panels continue the illustration. That's something we look for in an amazing design. A lot of designs work great on the front panel but leave the interior as an afterthought. Abdallah treated the whole wallet as one continuous canvas.
About Marcos Abdallah
Abdallah is an illustrator whose work tends toward character-driven scenes. Busy compositions, lots of small details, characters doing things in environments that feel like they have a story behind them. That approach translates well to the wallet format because there's always something new to notice, even after you've been carrying it for weeks. This is his fourth design with Paperwallet!
The Micro Wallet Format
Frog Hotel is a Micro Wallet. That's the compact format: roughly credit-card-sized when closed, 1.3mm thin, holds 6 to 8 cards and folded cash. Made from Tyvek, which is waterproof and tear-resistant. It's the wallet for people who carry light and want their pocket space back.
