A good vegan wallet is one made without leather that still holds up to years of daily use. The most common leather-free materials are Tyvek, cork, recycled nylon, TPU or silicone, and polyurethane (PU) "vegan leather". They feel very different from each other, so the right one depends on whether you want the thinnest possible wallet or something that looks like leather.

Is a Tyvek wallet vegan?
Yes. Tyvek is made entirely from high-density polyethylene, a plastic, so there are no animal materials in it. Paperwallet wallets are made from Tyvek without any leather parts.
That said, "vegan" covers more than the main material. If it matters to you, look at the whole wallet: leather trim, pull tabs, suede linings and some glues can all come from animals.
What to check before you buy
- The actual material. "Vegan leather" usually means PU or PVC. That's fine, but it ages differently from leather, and PU tends to last longer than PVC.
- How it's put together. Stitched seams are the first place a wallet wears out. Folded designs with fewer seams have less to fail.
- Whether it fits how you carry. A wallet that's too thick ends up in a bag instead of your pocket. Ours run from 1.3mm (the Micro Wallet, up to 8 cards) to 3mm (the Slim Wallet, 12 to 16 cards).
- Water. Leather and cork don't like getting soaked. Tyvek and TPU don't mind.

Common questions
Do vegan wallets last as long as leather?
It depends on the material. A good Tyvek wallet handles daily use for years without cracking. Cheap PU wallets are the ones that tend to peel, which is where the idea that vegan wallets don't last comes from.
Is a vegan wallet better for the environment?
Not automatically. Plastics like PU and Tyvek come from oil, while leather comes from livestock farming, and each has its own costs. A wallet you carry for many years is usually the better choice either way. Tyvek is HDPE (resin code 2), so it can be recycled where your local program accepts it.
